DEVELOPMENTAL HISTORY

DEVELOPMENTAL HISTORY

After starting to work together in 2019, the team held an informal Zoom reading of the first draft featuring friends and family in June 2021.

A two-day writing retreat in 2022 led to major structural changes , and the next draft of the piece earned a place as a semi-finalist for both the O’Neill Center’s 2023 National Music Theater Conference, as well as the American Music Theatre Project at Northwestern University.

The third complete draft was accepted into both the Chicago Musical Theatre Festival at Steppenwolf Theatre and NAMT’s 36th Annual Festival of New Musicals in 2024, receiving public presentations for the first time ever.

The fourth draft of the work was mounted as a developmental production by Firefly Theatre Group in May 2025, and after another working session in July with NAMT presentation director Catie Davis, the current draft will receive a March 2026 private workshop in New York City, co-produced by Ogunquit Playhouse.
